DING DONG DELL

Hmmm so dell is planning to open another call center in india.Meaning more jobs for so many unemployed educated youth. Also ther plan to open a manufacturing unit in india. So they can sell computers faster.Dell hold on indian computer market isnt much , just 3.66% in comparison to lenovo's 9.1% and HP's 19.05%. By opening a manufacturing unit in india they can improve their sales. But what i would want to know is how successful are they going to be.Nokia and Motorola paln to also open manufacturing units in India.Does this mean that India can now look at a future promising deveoplment of semiconductor industries.Another important question :When will India involve in design field even more deeply? Is this going to be the new age industrial reolution for India?

Semiconductor industries are no doubt eyeing Asia in particular India
and China for there development/Manufacturing units. Here are the
reasons for it.

1. Cost efficiency: Well we have heard about this more often than we
want to. But there is no denying it is one of the biggest factors
driving the industries to Asia.

2. Markets: The more closer you are to the markets the more
growth/vantage you have. The western market to reaching saturation. The
growth is stalling in the US. [ Look at the area wise revenue break up
of companies like Intel,AMD,LSI etc.. ] The Asian market is growing at
rapid pace. [ Growth rate in India is around 7. A little better for
China]. Let me give you an example.. 6/7 out of every 10 houses in USA
have access to the net, in India that ratio is less than 7:100. Doesnt
that clearly show where i shrewd guy has to put his money. Again another
figure thats important in our discussion is per capita income. Buying
power in the Asian country is galloping i must say.

3. Asians are Smart: No denying this. Chinese are known for there
hardwork [ This is something Indians have to watch out for. They do what
the preach] and Indians have always been regarded as intelligent folks.
No company would want to open R&D and development centers unless they
find workforce who can perform. Asians have proved that they have it in
them to make innovations and excel in every field.

4. FAB: Most have to US non-FAB semiconductor companies use TSMC [
Taiwan Semiconductor MAnufacturing Company] for there production. AMD
has already signed up with the Indian government to open a FAB in India.

Well.. The above definitely tastes sweet.. Now for some hard part of the
stories.

1. Top Management: One is not seeing the top management move into these
regions. The top brass still sit on the other side of the global and
make decisions. Thus restricted the growth of Asians individual. Usually
companies have a marketing team at its sites who study the market and
interact with the customers.

2. Call Centres/BPO : This i think is one the ugliest parts of todays
business in India. With huge incentives these companies are attracting
the young talent. Usually these jobs doesnt involve application of your
grey cells thus the intellectual growth among the youth is taking a
plummet. Also there are no takers for other jobs, which doesnt pay all
that great, like lawyers, CA etc.

I culd go on.. but my manager just called me for a meeting so ....

actually even though i have no idea of the market or engg, i couldn't reason why even though we've got a large no. of engg grads we can't seem to have our own companies developing hardware, electronics or even medical equipments like mri, ct scans...
hope someone gets into it pretty soon
